Difference in Respiration and Breathing

Respiration Breathing
Basic                  Definition Respiration is a metabolic process where organisms convert nutrients into energy, and waste products are produced. Breathing is a physical process of inhaling and exhaling air.
Component        Involved This involves the whole body system, including cells where metabolism takes place. This involves mainly the respiratory system: nose, trachea, lungs, and diaphragm.
Purpose The primary purpose of respiration is to produce energy for the body by breaking down glucose and other nutrients. The main purpose of breathing is to supply the body with oxygen and remove carbon dioxide.
Process Respiration is a chemical process involving multiple steps, such as glycolysis, the Krebs cycle, and oxidative phosphorylation. Breathing is a mechanical process that can be divided into two phases: inhalation and exhalation.
